Juan Medrano "Cotito", cajón
Juan Medrano-Cotito is an outstanding and internationally recognized musician, a renowned percussionist, singer and composer, and he is one of the living masters of the Cajon.
For over 20 years, Juan Medrano-Cotito has been touring and giving concerts throughout Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas. Cotito has worked along with Susana Baca since 1985, and he figures greatly on the album “Lamento Negro” which received a Latin Grammy award in 2002.
Cotito is a member of the electronic music group Novalima nominated to the 2009 Latin Grammy awards.
Also in 2009, Cotito launched his first album LA VOZ DEL CAJÓN, recorded in Portugal. He is the founder and director of the musical group LA VOZ DEL CAJÓN.
In 2012, the Peruvian government gave him the distinction of MERITORIOUS PERSONALITY OF THE PERUVIAN CULTURE, for his musical contributions.
One of his latest works is PUERTA DEL SOL, along with Jorge Pardo, Spanish master flautist and saxophonist and Ernesto Hermoza, Peruvian master guitarist.
He is in the process of recording his second album with the collaboration of American musicians eager to learn and disseminate Afro-Peruvian music.
